A spokesman for Chechen Diaspora in Turkey, Muslim Elikhanov, told our Moscow correspondent by phone that Alla Dudayev was held when she tried to board a plane to Istanbul, Turkey. Interfax news agency says she was stopped after she was discovered using a passport issued in another name. She was handed over to the federal security service. Interfax quotes an unnamed member of the Chechen separatist delegation currently in Moscow as saying she was ordered released by Russian President Boris Yeltsin. There is no independent confirmation of that. Dzhokhar Dudayev, who led Chechnya's independence drive from 1991, was killed on April 21 in a rocket attack blamed by the rebels on the Russian forces in the region.
